How to make driving likeable again in hot weather?

blogpost

Hot weather doesn’t seem to end and sitting in a boiling car after work may be the last thing you want to do. However, if you want to make the first minutes in your car a little more tolerant in hot conditions, use these tips.

Ventilate your cars

Air conditioning is a heavenly thing, but it will take some time before its effects are truly felt. If the car has been in the sun all day, proceed as follows before opening it: open the passenger side window and open the driver’s door. Then ventilate the door 5-10 times, after which the cabin should be a little cooler immediately.

Push the seats back

There may also be problems with hot seats, especially leather seats. To keep them from getting hot in the sun, you should push them backwards while you park. When the sun heats from above, the seats are in the shade and do not heat up as fast. However, this is not a solution if your car is in the sun all day.

Search for shadow

This may sound obvious, but shade parking is the best thing you can do to keep your car temperature lower. Whenever possible, the underground car park works even better. But if it’s nowhere to be found, look for a more shady place under a tree or at the house. Be careful and watch where the sun moves and park so that your car is in the shade the moment you go driving

Steering wheel tricks

If the car is still exposed to the sun, touching the steering wheel with the first stroke can be a real challenge, as it is hot. However, it helps to turn the steering wheel so that the upper part, which is normally under your hand, is at the bottom during parking. This way, the sun doesn’t heat the part you touch. When you get in the car, you can turn the steering wheel again and start driving in peace.

Sun visors save the day

In the South, it is common for vehicles to be covered during the day so that they cannot be heated by the sun. This is not a common practice in Estonia, but it is still helpful in hot weather. Find a mat, blanket or cover and try to cover the windows so that the sun cannot heat the car while parking. However, it’s easier to find a shady place, but you don’t always have to take them.

Finally, in hot weather, pay attention to the condition of the tires. The hot air expands, so the tire pressure also increases. Also check it before driving.
